Chair IFIP WG 9.5 – Virtuality and Society

img_mainlogoAfter holding a number of committee posts David became Chair of IFIP WG9.5 in January 2013, and thus a member of IFIP’s Technical Committee 9. The International Federation of Information Processors was 50 years old in 2010. IFIP has a formal consultative partnership relation with UNESCO and is listed as an international non-governmental organization (NGO).   National Computing Societies (e.g. ACM, BCS) are IFIP’s primary membership, and a range of Technical Committees considering issues of importance through a host of specialist working groups.  These working groups include a great number of computing, information systems, social science and philosophy academics, as well as industry representatives.   David attends TC9 meetings each year and contributes to the international work of IFIP.

At the TC9 meeting in Turku, Finland, in July 2014, David was invited to act as Chair, 12th IFIP TC9 Human Choice and Computers Conference, which will take place at MediaCityUK, Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, in September 2016.
