Activities of the Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus in 2006

2006 | 2005 | 2004 | 2003

  • 28 August - Manchester Pride Candlelit Vigil - a torrential downpour didn't dampen the spirits of thos who attended this annual event. We performed on stage alongside Four Puffs and a Piano, and X-factors Rowetta.
  • July/August - OUTGames, Montreal - We are delighted at our achievement of attaining the bronze medal in the choral competition.
  • 15 July - Royal Northern College of Music - Full concert with guests Outwrite providing monologues between the singing.
  • 1 July Europride, Trafalgar Square, London. Introduced by Mayor Ken Livingstone and followed by Sir Ian McKellen, we wowed the hundreds of revellers in the capital with a stunning performance.
  • 18 June Picnic in the Park. Despite threatening weather, the sun came out for the two Chorus performances, which drew a really good and appreciative crowd. Although I wasn't able to sing, by chance the Chorus were singing in 'my' area (I was one of the site managers for the day) and so, for once, I was able to fully appreciate the songs as a member of the audience.
  • 11 June Football tournament. This was a fun-packed, successful 5-a-side football tournament to raise money for the Montreal trip. Eight teams took part in sweltering heat to battle it out for the final. The competitive but fun spirit even encouraged some to play who have not played games for years! Along with raffling a signed England shirt a total of £350 was raised. Thanks to everyone for taking part and helping out on the day.
  • 28 May Queer Up North lantern parade . Another event that went really well and was a lot of fun. The crowd in Sackville Park were very appreciative and those of us who helped carry lanterns in the parade enjoyed bruising their knees on bollards. Congrats to Dean for successfully MD-ing us on his debut event in charge!
  • 25 May Chorlton Arts Festival. This was a superb event - the biggest concert since the previous October - at the Blue Box Theatre, Chortlon High School. Chorlton Arts Festival is now a permanent fixture in the Greater Manchester arts calendar, attracting support and praise from Arts Council England, Manchester City Council and many local businesses. The choir were very happy to be able to take part.
  • 13 May Ruby’s Naming Ceremony. Everybody who participated in this event found it moving and very enjoyable. Thank you so much to Gillian and Hayley for inviting us to be part of it. If we are going to keep getting tearful at events, perhaps we should think about having rainbow hankies to dab our eyes with!!
