External Examiner, Uppsala University

In December 2018 David was flown out to Stockholm to spend a day at Uppsala University, and to act as External Examiner – or ‘Opponent’ as it is termed in the Swedish system – for PhD Candidate Per Fors. The seminar lasted two and three quarter hours, including a last three quarters of an hour with questions and comments from the audience of scholars, during which Per answered probing questions from David, and welcomed comments and suggestions on how his work could be improved. The verdict on the overarching question of the day – ‘Is this work worthy of a PhD?’ – was “yes, but…,” as is generally the case for candidates who have made it this far. Well done to Per Fors for an excellent performance on the day, and for extremely interesting work on a critical understanding of ICT Sustainability.
