Alan&#8217;s thesis was on &#8220;Communicating in the Local: Digital Communications Technology Use in Brighton&#8217;s Gay Pub Scene&#8221; and made for a fascinating read. There were a number of quite fundamental requirements, however, that it needed to meet, before it could be considered ready, and Michael Bull, Internal Examiner, and David agreed to give Alan a further year to complete his research and resubmit. In April 2016, the new version was presented and proved an excellent improvement on the first.
