All they ask<br \/>\nis that we respect their cultural &#8216;thang&#8217; about FACE.  We (especially<br \/>\nBush, have been blowing off in their FACE) and they are begging us,<br \/>\n&#8216;don&#8217;t give us any more trouble &#8211; we are in China&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>But, on the other hand, the Last Great Police State, already<br \/>\neconomically conquered, is finally beginning to waver politically in the<br \/>\nswirl of the information society. This is a phenomenon that knows no<br \/>\ngeographical limits &#8211; and perhaps needs only to complete its global<br \/>\nubiquitous-ness  before it begins to expand its cloak of satellites<br \/>\nbeyond the orbit of the earth and out into the inky blackness, perhaps<br \/>\nwith a more culturally integrated voice&#8230; ..albeit that that cultural<br \/>\nintegration may hide many unique flavours behind its standard salt &amp;<br \/>\nvinegar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It seems the choice for all of us has been made.  Globally, we live in a<br \/>\ntransnational capitalist economy, and pray that the survival of the<br \/>\nplanet will be profitable.  Global integrity sufficient to create a<br \/>\nglobally interoperable ubiquitous computing environment will require<br \/>\nthat we continue along cultural lines already in play for decades,<br \/>\ncenturies, even millenia of tradition, as the legs upon which new heads<br \/>\nstand.  On the other hand, large scale systems, after all, set<br \/>\nparameters for cultural expression and identity.
