Glastonbury Festival

I have attended twenty-eight of the festivals in the fifty-odd years since that first party at Worthy Farm.

Glastonbury Festival has run in 1970, 1971, 1979, 1981-1987, 1989, 1990, 1992-1995, 1997-2000, 2002-2005, 2007-2011, 2013-2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. That’s 39 times in total. See the Glastonbury Festival Website History page for details. I have attended 28 of them.

  1. My first was Glastonbury’s 7th festival, in 1984. I came as a punter – to see The Smiths. It’s the only time I’ve bought a ticket.
  2. In 1989 I went as part of Ariadne Productions, performing in “The Shining Ones” in the Theatre Field – booked by Arabella Churchill, Director of the Theatre/Circus zone; we also performed in the Green Fields.
  3. In 1990 Arabella booked Gothic Relief and we took “The Death of Frankenstein” to the Theatre Field.
    There was no festival in 1991.
  4. In 1992 I worked for Arabella as Stage Manager, 2nd Theatre Marquee.
  5. In 1993 I performed as Bass Singer in the Avalonian Free State Choir, at the Wise Crone Cafe.
    I was busy with finals at Dartington in 1994, and with my first summer at Tamworth in 1995.
    There was no festival in 1996.
  6. In 1997 I worked for Arabella again, as Crew, on the Performer’s Check-in Desk.
  7. In 1998 I ran the Check-In Desk.
  8. In 1999 I ran the Check-In Desk.
  9. In 2000 I ran the Check-In Desk, and part way through the week Arabella asked me to go up to Point A and ‘take over’.
    There was no festival in 2001.
  10. In 2002 I was ‘Mr. Laminates’ for the Theatre/Circus zone, running both the Check-In Desk and the Point A Passes Desk, for Bella.
  11. In 2003 I was ‘Mr. Laminates’ again.
  12. In 2004 I was ‘Mr. Laminates’ again.
  13. In 2005 I was ‘Mr. Laminates’ again – see the pics of the flash-flood!
    There was no festival in 2006.
  14. In 2007 I again ran the Laminating and Performer’s Check-in operation.
  15. In 2008 I again ran the Laminating, Wristbands and Performer’s Check-in operation. This was the first Festival without Bella, following her untimely death. See my blog post at the time.
  16. In 2009 I again ran the Laminating, Wristbands and Performer’s Check-in operation.
  17. In 2010 I again ran the Laminating, Wristbands and Performer’s Check-in operation – now called Theatre & Circus Passes Office.
  18. In 2011 I again ran the Theatre & Circus Passes Office and Performers Check-in.
    There was no festival in 2012.
  19. In 2013 I was restyled as the ‘Accreditation Manager’ – running the Theatre & Circus Passes Office and Performers Check-in as usual.
  20. In 2014 I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus and celebrated my 20th Glastonbury Festival on the 30th anniversary of my first one – with cake 🙂
  21. In 2015 I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus.
  22. In 2016 I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus.
  23. In 2017 I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus.
    There was no festival in 2018.
  24. In 2019 I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus.
    COVID prevented festivals in both 2020 and 2021. Hope Shines Brightest in the Dark.
  25. In 2022, after the break during the pandemic, I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre & Circus, and was profiled by the BBC (approx 22mins into the show)
  26. In 2023, I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre and Circus
  27. In 2024, I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre and Circus
  28. In 2025, I was again Accreditation Manager for Theatre and Circus.
    There will be no festival in 2026.
